Cissy Rock

New Lynn

Energetic, driven creator of possibilities with a huge marshmallow heart.

What issues are most important to you?

Far too many people don’t have enough to live on.  Income is at the centre of a lot of issues – poverty, housing, health, justice.  I mean, every kid needs to be able to go on school camp, no parent wants to worry about a birthday invite because they can’t afford a present, artists need to be able to paint and gardeners garden.

In 2017, what change would you most like to see?

I would love to see a Universal Basic Income. I reckon it would allow people to be able to participate in their communities. I would support legalizing marijuana. Meth is our worst nightmare and easier to get than dope.  And I want property investment taxed. I think houses are for living in, and investment and speculation need to happen outside of the housing market.

What achievement are you most proud of?

My three lovely sons, who have shaped me and my outlook on life.

Who inspires you?

I am inspired by everyday people who step up.  It’s easy for people to think they don’t make a difference and be very apathetic.  I think about the person years ago who paid for my shopping when my card was declined.  That restored my faith.

Name your favourite queer anthem or protest song.

I Am Woman – Helen Reddy
