Out Loud Aotearoa: The Exhibition is an event that seeks to continue the conversations around the failings and strengths of our current mental health and addiction system as it relates to queer and gender diverse communities.
In mid 2018, the folks behind We Are Beneficiaries partnered with RainbowYOUTH to use art to bring the voices of queer and gender diverse communities to the Government Inquiry into Mental Health and Addiction Services. In August 2018, the Out Loud Aotearoa report was released as a result of several month work on the project. It contained art detailing the experiences and wishes of over 80 people from the queer and gender diverse communities as well as a series of recommendations from the community about how the government could improve on the way that the mental health and addictions supports queer and gender diverse communities.
During the 2019 Auckland Pride Festival, We Are Beneficiaries and RainbowYOUTH are excited to explore the Out Loud conversation further through their upcoming event Out Loud Aotearoa: The Exhibition.
The event, held at Studio One — Toi Tū, will bring some of the artworks and stories from the Out Loud project to life on a large scale. The exhibition will have an opening night centred around discussions of self-care, resilience, art & activism in our communities.
