Creating Rainbow Inclusive Schools!

Saturday 9 February 2019, 2.30 PM

New Lynn Community Centre  45 Totara Avenue, New Lynn, Auckland
Free Event

InsideOUT is hosting a workshop, funded by the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand, for anyone wanting to make changes in their school to create more inclusive environments for rainbow young people. This is a great chance to connect with other schools and learn from each other about creating safe environments. By working together to celebrate our rainbow diversity, we can prevent and stop homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying in schools.

The workshop will focus on tips for starting and sustaining a rainbow diversity group or queer-straight alliance and is suitable for groups of all stages. We will also look at key initiatives and events your school can take part in throughout the year, like Pink Shirt Day, an annual bullying prevention campaign run by the Mental Health Foundation. We’ll explore the Pink Shirt Day tagline ‘Speak Up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying’ and give you practical ways to use it within your classroom. We’ll explore what you want to achieve in your school and help you set goals for the year ahead.

The workshop is open to both high-school students and school staff to attend. Contact [email protected] for further information or questions. The event is free to attend but please register at  insideout.org.nz/events

We’ll provide free resources and kai!
