What’s Up? Auckland Pride Activist Gala

Presented by Auckland Pride Activist Gala Volunteers

Monday 11 February 2019, 7 PM

GridAKL  101 Pakenham St West, Wynyard Quarter.
Free Event

Join a moderated panel of activists from Tāmaki Makaurau’s diverse Rainbow communities. This event aims to stimulate constructive conversation across generations, identities and issues, and to spark intersectional activism.

Don’t miss this chance to hear Elizabeth Kerekere (via video), Ahi Wi-hongi, Phylesha Brown-Acton, Medulla Oblongata, Anna Nelson, Eliana Rubashkyn, Frances Arns, Aatir Zaidi, Tycho Vandenburg, and a speaker from Shakti. They will share some of the issues faced by Rainbow community members who are takatāpui, Pasifika, refugees and asylum seekers, people with disabilities, migrants, youth, Muslim, trans, intersex and/or are homeless. Both Jan Logie and Louisa Wall will respond briefly at the end.

This event is free, but spaces are limited, so please register through Eventbrite

What are the most pressing human rights challenges each community faces, and how can we support each others’ struggles?

Are there opportunities to make lasting change in 2019?

What are the top five human rights issues for Rainbow communities in Aotearoa right now?

How much does it depend on who you ask?

What are the recommendations that Rainbow activists have been raising in submissions to the government and to the United Nations – and are they being heard?

Are there Rainbow voices that have been missing from these discussions?

Be part of a constructive conversation across generations, identities and issues. You will get a chance to listen, to vote, to ask questions and maybe participate in some activist speed-dating. Please join us for this really timely event as we aim to build stronger alliances across and between our various Rainbow communities to withstand current backlashes and make the most of our opportunities for change.

This event is free, but spaces are limited, so please register through Eventbrite
